What we eat is not just for our nutrition but food for the gut microbiome, important to our health and wellbeing. Our gut contains trillions of microbes also known as gut bacteria, where they have an essential role in digestion, immune function, weight management and our mental health.
A healthy and varied diet is important to ensure a plentiful and diverse range of ‘good’ bacteria. Your diet and lifestyle choices can have a postive or negative impact on the balance of good and bad gut bacteria.
Poor gut health can lead to a variety of health issues and nutritional deficiency including weight management, immune dysfunction, and chronic inflammation.
I offer a programme of personalised nutrition consultations that can support you to manage digestive issues, including irritable bowel, stomach pain, bloating, heartburn, acid reflux, constipation, diarrhoea, joint pain, and food sensitivity such as an intolerance with gluten or dairy.
If you have been experiencing digestive symptoms for longer than 3 weeks, then you are recommended to see your GP in the first instance to check for any underlying condition that may be responsible.

IBS
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
A common digestive system condition that can be debilitating, lasting for days, weeks or months. Symptoms include stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea, and constipation and can impact on your quality of life. Monitoring what you eat for an awareness of IBS triggers and support with diet and lifestyle changes can help you to manage and ease your symptoms.

Heartburn
Heartburn is a burning sensation in the chest behind the breastbone due to regurgitated stomach acid entering the oesophagus and throat. Causes vary and can be due to a combination of diet, lifestyle, and stress. Support with addressing triggers of reflux can help you to reduce and manage symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux (GORD).
Note: If you have persistent heartburn lasting more than 3 weeks see your GP.

Intolerances
If you have difficulty digesting or tolerating certain foods, then you may have a food intolerance. Symptoms vary and can include stomach pain, cramping, bloating, gas and diarrhoea, or itchy skin and rashes that happen gradually within a few hours after eating certain foods. Monitoring symptoms along with your diet can help determine which foods you eat trigger your symptoms.

Parasites
Common gastrointestinal symptoms like bloating, gas, diarrhoea, and constipation could be linked to parasitic infections. A stool test is the best way to check for intestinal parasites either through your GP or privately. Using Nutritional Therapy, a comprehensive treatment plan can be developed to support you in your recovery and address the damage caused to your digestive system.
If you want to take control of your digestive issues, then we can work together to help manage your diet and symptoms for a healthier and happier you.
